Sheila Brody received her license in Massage Therapy from the Swedish Institute in NYC in 1998. Through her years of schooling for Massage Therapy, Sheila worked in a Salon, caring for the needs of her guests and building relationships. Because of her long dedication, loyalty, natural gifts and special talents she gradually gained the trust of her neighborhood patrons. After receiving her Massage Therapy License she quickly began expanding clientele due to her gift of being a natural healer. Brody had the vision of moving away from the salon atmosphere and concentrating on the wellbeing of her guests mental and physical state over their beauty needs. Within one year of receiving her license the word was out that there was a talented healer in town and her clientele quickly grew large enough for her to want to expand into new horizons and bring her dream into reality.
The Spa & Wellness Center was created in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn as the pioneer Wellness Center of the neighborhood. The business grew from one room to a four-room center concentrating on the wellness aspects of guests. She built a talented team of healers who under her wing shared in the trust and growth of guests who were eager to experience the unique services of Massage Therapy, Skincare and Alternative Care.
The Spa’s décor was another unique aspect of the center. Sheila attended FIT for Interior Design and used her space as her canvas to show off her design talents and knowledge. Patrons of the center often came to her for advice when designing their space, which led to her new found design career. Space design started as a hobby and passion and grew into a town of guests requesting Brody’s advice on their personal space design. Sheila’s gift of changing the ordinary into the extraordinary without blinking the eye was shining. This soon grew into a new business of Sheila’s, HOM Boutique and Tea Garden was born in 2002. Hom Boutique is an eclectic shop featuring home design products ranging from Candles to Furniture, lighting, and an extension of Spa Products. The Tea Garden is a secret yard that caters to both Spa & Hom guests to come and enjoy delightful treats ranging from English tea Sandwiches to Southern Comfort food. The two businesses partnered together so well, creating a haven for guests to spend an hour or an entire day.
By 2005, the Spa business was booming and Hom Boutique was quickly growing. At this point the Spa’s response was greater than the space could provide. Brody had dreams of creating an environmentally conscious wellness center that expanded the care of the personal needs to that of one’s environment as well. As an active member of her local community, she wanted to give back to her loyal guests and neighbors by leading by example and going “green.”
Sheila purchased the building and started the journey into the creation of the First Green Building in Bay Ridge Brooklyn and the first Three-floor luxury Sustainable wellness center in NYC. This was mentally planned this for 6 years, and in 2007 the dream had come to light. Built with all eco friendly materials, the center also uses all natural, vegan, organic and/or chemical free products in the services and in the home care products. All printed materials are printed on recycled papers with soy ink.
Now called The Green Spa & Wellness Center, Brody’s Center has expanded on the services to include all wellness needs, such as Organic Massage Therapy, Natural Skincare, Nutrition, Movement Classes (Yoga, Pilates, Meditation, Chi Gong & Tai Chi Ruler), Acupuncture, Nails, Organic Body Treatments, Vegan Nail care and much more. The Center also hosts seminars to teach local community members how they too can go green in their own space, learn natural alternatives to nutrition, meditation, alternative care and much more
